Wireless communication technologies have been common place in homes and industry for many years. Recent Smart Grid initiatives have created a renewed demand for standardized, low data-rate, low-power, wireless technology in the metering, home, business and industrial automation markets. To address this need, Microchip offers IEEE 802.11™, IEEE 802.15.4™ and ZigBee® standard solutions along with our Proprietary MiWi™ protocol for both 2.4 GHz and Sub-GHz.

Wireless modules make it easy to differentiate your end design without having to be an expert in antenna design or the certification processes. Microchip provides free software libraries for the wireless protocols including TCP/IP, and MiWi stacks that run on PIC® microcontrollers. For low power wireless sensors, PIC MCUs with XLP technology will maximize your battery life with the lowest possible power consumption

  • ZigBee PRO and ZigBee RF4CE are standards based wireless protocols, ensuring interoperability and reliable communication between various manufacturers’ products. ZigBee is well-suited for a wide array of low power wireless mesh networks and RF4CE is targeted for peer-to-peer remote control of entertainment consumer electronic audio/visual equipment. MiWi P2P, MiWi and MiWi PRO protocols are designed to provide lower cost, point to point and mesh networking capabilities for customers who desire robust communication but do not need ZigBee interoperability.
